Every paver installation we build begins below grade. The excavation is taken to the depth conditions require, typically up to twelve inches and deeper where the soil demands it, at no additional cost. Removing that loose material allows for settling of the gravel base and protects the finished surface from heaving and uneven settlement in the seasons that follow. The base is rebuilt in Grade 8 stone compacted in three-inch layers and graded away from the structure for drainage. A layer of three-eighths inch chip is installed over the compacted base, pavers are cut and laid directly upon it, edge restraints are installed along every outside edge, and the field is plate tamped to set level.
