What is our Landscape Makeover Contest?
For five years, William Quinn and Sons ran a “$5,000 Landscape Makeover Contest” for homeowners in the 19th ward. It was a great opportunity for us to give back to the communities that have given so much to us.
Last year, we transitioned our “Landscape Makeover Contest” to give back to the Catholic Schools and Parishes that have helped define who we are today – both as a company and as members of the Catholic Community.
This year, and going forward, we are going to continue providing our yearly contest exclusively for the Parishes and Catholic Schools in, and around, the 19th Ward.
Congratulations to our 2018 Landscape Makeover Winner – St. John Fisher!
In 2018, St. John Fisher was our very first Catholic School to win our Landscape Makeover Contest. The entire school came together to produce a video, and each grade level created a packet dedicated to “winning” a garden for the departing Sr. Jean.
In addition to the landscape renovation, Unilock donated 300 square feet of their classic pavers (Brussel’s Block and Holland Stone) to allow us to construct an outdoor area by the main office that the students can use for outdoor studies, pictures, leisure, etc.
Who is Eligible?
The following schools are eligible for the 2019 Landscape Makeover Contest:
- Christ the King
- Most Holy Redeemer
- Queen of Martyrs
- St. Barnabas
- St. Cajetan
- St. Catherine of Alexandria
- St. Christina
- St. Germaine
- St. Linus
When and How?
Beginning now, and ending May 17th, the eligible Schools and Parishes may submit to us a drawing, a writing, a video, a photograph, or anything their imaginations can come up with to fulfill the following:
- What the school could look like with a Landscape Makeover
- What my school and parish mean to me
- Why choose my school or church?
Entrants will be judged on creativity, uniqueness, and how compelling their entry is with regard to the requirements above. The judges have no association with the 19th ward or any school, and do not live in the area.
What does my Parish/School receive?
Entries are judged internally by an unbiased panel (no employees or Quinn family members), and the winner will be awarded $5,000 worth of landscape plant material (design and install included) for their Parish/School.
What do we have to do?
We don’t require that your school or parish advertise our contest, but it helps with the quantity and quality of entries. The top 3 schools for the 2018 contest created great video content, written entries, and drawings and combined them as their (single) entry for their school!
Single entries per student, combined entries for grades, classrooms, or the entire school, and group projects will be accepted (basically anything).
Entries can be dropped off at our office at:
3860 W. 127th St. Alsip, IL 60803
Or you can call our office at (708) 389-8119 to arrange for a member of our management team to pick up your entries.
What if our school wins?
Winners will be announced once our judges have decided on the winner.
The school will be contacted, announced on our website, and the Quinn family will contact the school to setup an appointment with anyone that wishes to meet with us. We’ll decide on the areas to focus on for the makeover, create a design, and present the ideas after the design is completed.
The makeover will be completed sometime during summer break so as not to interfere with class sessions.
Good luck to all those that enter our 2019 Landscape Makeover Contest!
Please contact us at (708) 389-8119 with any questions.
